Removable sternum straps attach via clasps to the MOLLE webbing on the shoulder straps of a ruck for stabilization.

While rucks are made to be worn high on the back, sternum straps can provide reduced jarring and tumbling of your rucksack. This added line across the body allows for a quick and dirty carabiner clip-in point, too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must Have I have the sternum strap on my Rucker and I have to say this is a great addition to the ruck and a must have, as far as I'm concerned. For EDC I think you can get away without having one. But for long hikes, rucks or carrying large amounts of weight, this is a crucial piece for me, especially when you really need to cinch the ruck tight to you. It really helps keep the ruck in place. I would also recommend the attachable waist belt as well. Only concern is the difficulty getting it through the MOLLE on the shoulder straps, but it's just a little extra work for an invaluable addition to the ruck.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from As sturdy as you'd expect I have two of these, one for GR0 and one for 10L Bullet. They come in handy every now and then when hiking or when I'm looking to make sure the backpack straps aren't shifting around. Perhaps the best thing I could say about GORUCK's MOLLE sternum strap is I don't have any concerns about it failing on me. So while I don't know that any part of the strap has been "stress-tested up to 400 lbs" like my trusty GR0 (now the GR1, 21L), I at least have the sense that the strap will probably hold under most usual conditions. One potential warning to notice, buyers: it's tough to put the strap onto the backpack shoulder webbing. I might've had to watch a video to get the trick and even then my fingers were sore.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It broke first use. I was surprised when I went to cinch it up the first time and it came apart on the non-adjustable end. There was almost no stitching holding it together. The Nilon piece was perfectly intact. Still have it, I think.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sternum Strap Review The sternum strap seems like a bombproof way to keep my GR1 tight against my body. The strap is definitely recommended for Goruck training and challenges. My only complaint, is that it is difficult to get on and off...and that makes sense for the challenges because you definitely don't want this falling off during a challenge, but I wear my ruck throughout the year and not only for challenges, and it is a pain to take this thing on and off. The only improvement I could recommend is to create a new way to attach to the MOLLE...the standard plastic clips work great to keep the strap on, but being able to take it off easier for family day trips or short mountain bike rides where I don't need it would be helpful.
