What the hell is Mike V doing at GORUCK?

What the hell is Mike V doing at GORUCK?

The word legend gets thrown around too much.
Mike V earned it.
  • Skateboarding Hall of Fame. Nearly 40 years as a pro and still skating.
  • Thrasher cover at 16. He helped shape what modern street skating became.
  • Frontman for Black Flag. Yes, that Black Flag.
  • Professional hockey player at 40. Dropped the gloves in his first pro game, broke his arm, and came back anyway.
  • A fixture in the Tony Hawk video games that an entire generation grew up playing.
  • Actor & Stuntman: The Hangover, xXx, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, and more.
And that's the short version.

For more than four decades, Mike V has done things his own way.

Not because they made sense on paper. Not because somebody handed him a career path. Because they mattered to him.

He has always followed his own compass.

And in 2011, that compass led him to GORUCK.

He showed up for his first GORUCK Challenge and became part of this community long before there was ever a title attached to his name.

That wasn't a one-time thing.

He kept showing up.

Every Ruck or Die. New York City. Normandy. And more GORUCK Events and miles under weight than we could probably count.

Fifteen years later, he's still showing up.

And that matters.

Because Mike V isn't here to stand on the sidelines and talk about GORUCK.

He's here to live it.

He rucks three times a day. He does the events. He puts in the miles. He suffers alongside everyone else. He spends time with the people who make this community what it is.

Then he tells those stories.

Not from a marketing brief.

Not from a conference room.

From experience.

For the past six months, Mike V has been doing exactly that as GORUCK's Chief Brand Officer.

He's living the brand every day, getting closer to the community, protecting what makes GORUCK different, and telling authentic stories about the people, the miles, the suffering, the friendships, and the moments that make this movement what it is.

He recently said it better than we could:

“This is where I see my reflection. This is what I choose to do. This is who I am. This is what I love: Rucking.”

That's the job.

Live it. Protect it. Tell the truth about it. And help carry the rucking movement forward.

Mike V has already built one hell of a legacy.

But he isn't at GORUCK because of what he did somewhere else.

He's here because he believes deeply in what we're building now.

And if nearly 40 years of Mike V has taught us anything, it's that when he believes in something, he goes all in.

Mike V is GORUCK.

Welcome home, Mike V.

Ruck Up.
