What to Bring

Backpack/Ruck (20L) - Should be Able to Hold the Following Items:
  • 3L hydration bladder and 1L Nalgene
  • Water purification device/pills (Legacy Only)
  • 3 pairs of socks
  • Light hiking pants
  • Shorts
  • Headlamp and small flashlight
  • Compass and 1:24,000 map protractor
  • Notebook and pencil
  • Light gloves
  • Knife
  • Base layer
  • Rain shell
  • Sleeping bag
  • Locking carabiner (Legacy Only)
  • Cold weather hat or beanie and tac hat
  • Sunblock and bug spray

  • Calories (a few MRE or Mountain House meals plus sports snacks of choice)
  • 1-2 pairs trail shoes/light hiking boots – hard/firm soled and stable – break them in before the event
  • 15’ 1-inch tubular nylon and 15’ 7mm climbing accessory cord (Legacy Only)
  • Light camping stove similar to MSR or jetboil (Legacy Only)
  • Tent / hammock and Sleeping pad
  • Ferrocerium rod
  • 4 AAA Batteries

Backpack/Ruck (20L-30L) - Should be Able to Hold the Following Items:
  • Full tang knife (non folding knife) in a sheath
  • Canteen cup (non insulated)
  • Water bottle (wide mouth Nalgene)
  • Large tarp
  • 550 cord or similar strength cordage
  • Ferrocerium Rod
  • If overnight lows are forecast to drop below 50 degrees bring a sleeping bag
Optional items:
  • Watch
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen

Participants are required to bring the following meals:
  1. Camp meals: 2 camp meals to be eaten and prepared at a base camp per day. Examples of camp meals are Mountain House dehydrated meals or MREs. Well rounded nutrient and calorie rich foods are best.
  2. Go Meals: 1-2 go meals per day, to be eaten on the move during field time and training. Examples of go type meals are Pro-Bar meal bars, Sandwiches, or similar calorie and carbohydrate rich foods that don't require preparation in the field.
  3. Snacks: Good mountain snacks are high in calories especially in carbohydrates and fat. Examples are trail mix, bars, bagels.
