We’re all in this world together and what I’ve learned through Special Forces training and operations is that to succeed we must act as a team. Many have also found this to be true as they’ve attended GORUCK events - it’s what we teach and it’s a great lesson to learn. I’ve also found that to be a great team member, you must first be a great individual.
As a young man living in Seattle in the early 1960’s I was fortunate enough to attend a speech given by Jim Whittaker - the first American to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
He included two comments in his speech that stuck with me -
“If you aren’t living on the edge, you’re taking up too much space.”
And the comment that most inspired me -
“You never conquer the mountain. Mountains can’t be conquered; you conquer yourself.”
That phrase has held throughout my life - so I challenge you -
