In the 1984 black comedy, Gremlins, a gadget salesman buys a special gift for his son at a store in Chinatown. The shopkeeper reluctantly sells him a cute but mysterious creature known as a “mogwai,” with a warning to never expose him to bright light, water, or to feed him after midnight. When his son fails to heed these rules, he accidentally unleashes a horde of malevolent creatures on a small town.
Welcome to the Gremlins Ruck! For this month’s Halloween-themed 80s callout, you and your team will similarly fail to heed the shopkeeper’s warnings, unleashing some mischievous Good Livin’ on your city. First of all, you’ll need to step off after midnight. Then, you’ll ruck to a body of water; it could be a creek, a fountain, a pond, or even a splash pad. What matters is that you all get completely immersed…or at least drenched from head to toe. (Bonus points if you all do hydro-burpees as a team!) Then head out to ruck 4 miles or more together.
If you want to add an extra challenge with some Gremlin-style shenanigans, include an after-midnight food challenge! Line up everyone for a rucks-on bear crawl race, set out a matching number of hot dogs (or a snack of your choice) at the turnaround point, then have everyone bear crawl 25 yards out, devour the food, and then quickly bear crawl back to the starting line!
