Significance: This month we will honor USAF SSgt Timothy P. Davis "DT" who was killed on February, 20 2009 supporting operations in OEF when his vehicle was struck by an IED. You pick the weight and if you want a single or a double serving of shared pain.

Significance: Lori Piestewa was the first Native American woman KIA. Ambushed in the attack where Jessica Lynch was taken POW. Her surname is derived from a Hopi language root meaning "water pooled on the desert by a hard rain"; thus, Piestewa (Hopi: [piˈɛstɛwa]) translates loosely as "the people who live by the water."

Rucking: RUCK: -3x 1 mile “Apache” Rucks. Mouth full of water. Only nose breathing.

Significance: In memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, NY, who was killed in Afghanistan June 28, 2005. A U.S. Navy SEAL officer, Murphy was awarded the U.S. military’s highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions during the War in Afghanistan.

Additional Task: Additional task: Visit a grave and make an offering. Consider visiting a veteran’s grave as part of the UWVC Memorial Day #LestWeForget Ruck (special patch details forthcoming). Say their name so they are not forgotten. Render a salute or place your hand over your heart in a moment of silence. If you feel compelled to do more, placing a small American flag would be an appropriate tribute in honor of their service to our country.

This quote is from Sebastian Junger's Vets Town Hall organization whose mission is to give veterans a space to speak about their experience at war. This month your additional challenge is to find someone who has been to war and ask them to speak about their experience as you listen. If you are someone who has been to war, you can still participate in this challenge as both a listener and a speaker.

Significance

Sara Wilkinson and GORUCK present the hero workout “CHAD” - in honor of Navy SEAL Chad Wilkinson who took his life on October 29, 2018 due to the effects of numerous deployments, several TBIs, blast wave injuries and PTSD. Our goal is to honor Chad’s life and legacy and to raise awareness for suicide prevention. This year, join us again in paying respect to Chad Wilkinson and all those who have been lost to suicide, while also committing to try to change the number. #CHAD1000X
