A LONG SLEEVE TEE THAT PASSES THE COMMANDO TEST

In WWI, wool was so important to British soldiers on the front lines that knitting wool sweaters was seen as a patriotic duty. By WWII, wool’s reputation was further solidified. However, SAS members spent extended periods in the field, laden with rucksacks and additional equipment, constantly on the move.

After witnessing repeated failures with their traditional wool sweaters, the SAS sought a lighter alternative, reinforcing the shoulders and elbows for durability. This became the iconic British Commando Sweater, and the inspiration for what we call the “commando test” — to pass muster, Merino wool must be reinforced in high stress areas. If it’s not, it simply fails too fast like the traditional wool garments that the SAS rejected.

"I wear this shirt almost all the time. When I’m not wearing it, I’m wearing the short sleeve version. Unlike Humpty Dumpty with all the king's horses and all the king's men, if Goruck products need repair, SCARS will put them back together again."

I've owned the black version

"I've owned the black version of this shirt for the past two winters, usually every day. Being Merino wool, you don't have to wash it very often, as in once a month, maybe. It seems to regulate my body temperature very well in a variety of conditions, and I've worn it on long rucks in temperatures down to 29 degrees F. Being wool the shirt can build up static electricity and it is a lint and pet hair magnet, but the pros are worth those few cons. I'm 6'0" and 175 pounds, athletic build, and the large fits me perfectly."

Like a "Second Shirt" to Wear Over a T-Shirt

"The Men's Commando Quarter Zip is a nice "second shirt," to wear over a short-sleeve T-shirt in situations when the temps are a bit on the "chilly" side. This would include airline flights or dog walks when temps are a bit too cool for just a T-shirt, but not cold enough for a lined jacket. I don't like wearing wool sweaters, but the Quarter Zip is not a sweater; it's much lighter, not bulky and takes very little space when folded. I might want the heavier version for colder weather or anything more than light physical activity and would not wear the Quarter Zip for ground work, due to concerns about tearing or over-stretching."

First time disappointed

"Was really looking forward to getting this. I love Goruck products. This is the first one that im disappointed in. The photo shows the traditional commando style with the strengthened areas on the shoulders and elbows but this one is just the shoulders. I waited for this one to come back in stock too because the photos showed the elbows had the toughened area but it didn't. Disappointed."
