“Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” –Ferris Bueller
In the 80s cinema classic, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, high school senior Ferris stays home “sick” to plan a legendary day off with his friends in downtown Chicago, while being pursued by Principal Rooney. Together, they “borrow” a classic 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder and embark on an audacious tour of the city, challenging authority and bluffing their way through an unconventional day of fun.
Welcome to Ruck Club Day Off. For this Callout, you and your team will reenact the “day off” path taken by Ferris, Sloane, and Cameron, but adjusted for your own hometown.
Details
Ruck distance: 3 miles minimum. Ideally, you’re looking at something more in the 5-10 mile range with a number of fun places to stop along the way, but do what works best for your city and your crew.
Choose a few waypoints that replicate the Chicago landmarks seen in the film, but make it work for your city. Here are a few thought-starters:
A museum (instead of The Art Institute of Chicago)
A sports stadium (instead of Wrigley Field)
A restaurant (instead of Chez Quis) Bonus cool points if you make reservations under the name of “Abe Froman, Sausage King of Chicago.”
Join a parade (carry as many American flags as possible)
Perform a spontaneous rendition of “Twist & Shout” with some locals
Be creative! Tailor your waypoints to create a fun walking tour of your town!
Bonus cool points if you get your team photo in front of a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder!
