HERITAGE RUCKING SHOES

In 1945, Camp Mackall, North Carolina was the forge for the Airborne paratroopers who helped secure Allied Victory in WWII. When two million people filled Times Square to celebrate the end of the war, America marked a triumph of unity, service, and purpose—a generation that returned home to build the country we love today.

We built the MACKALL 45 to honor that relentless American spirit.

We fused our elite Special Forces rucking chassis with a sharp, heritage suede upper for modern performance and old school looks. This means you can wear one pair of shoes for workouts, travel, and dinner. From a 12-mile overnight beatdown at RUCK OR DIE to stepping out in a suit on the streets of NYC, the Mackall 45 delivers zero-blister comfort, rugged durability, and uncompromising performance out of the box.

FEATURES & SPECS

ZERO BLISTERS OUT OF THE BOX
Our standard was no blisters, no hotspots after at least one hour with 45 lbs on your back, right out of the box - WITHOUT SOCKS ON. To achieve this, even in a sweaty Florida summer, we build a seamless heel transition and 360-degree padding wrapped in synthetic suede to eliminate any hard seams and friction points. They do what they’re supposed to do.

BUILT TO LIVE ON YOUR FEET
We created the rucking revolution and the footwear to support it from the ground up. The special sauce here is the combined support from the midsole foam and the premium insert. Rucking is harder on gear and the people wearing it, so we build it tougher to support your feet over thousands of miles on any terrain.

GOLDEN ERA PIGSKIN SUEDE
Rooted in the WWII heritage of Camp Mackall and old school performance trainers, we built the 45s with top-of-the-line pigskin nubuck suede. It has an iconic look backed by serious toughness. Over time, it breaks in even better than new, and remains supple. You’ll like them a year later even more than you like them Day 1, and that’s not something you hear every day about performance shoes.

ONE PAIR OF SHOES TO RULE THEM ALL
An old school upper with a performance lower that you can ruck all night in, hit a workout (any workout), then dress them up to get to your big meeting or a nice dinner out. You don’t need to travel with 3 pairs of shoes when you have one pair to rule them all.

SCUFF GUARD
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

SPEARHEAD
Inspired by the Special Forces Unit insignia, the GORUCK Spearhead is always moving forward to face the hardest challenges head on.

1945
Inspired by the year 1945 when Camp Mackall sent the final Airborne Troopers overseas to secure the Allied Victory, when 2 million people poured into Times Square to celebrate the end of WWII and the Greatest Generation started coming home to shape America in its spirit. Service, sacrifice, duty, country — these are all baked into the ether that we inherited in our service after 9/11.

  • Build Location: Built in Vietnam
  • Care Instructions: Remove insert. Hose them down thoroughly to clean off dirt and sweat, then let them air dry or use a shoe dryer (buy one and put it in your garage, you filthy animal!). Do not use a washer or dryer—it's easier this way, and your shoes will last longer.

A NOTE FROM JASON

THE GR1 OF FOOTWEAR

July 2026

Three years after development started, I got on a plane to NYC wearing one pair of Mackall 45s. I knocked out route recon before the first-ever Ruck Or Die, grabbed dinner, and headed to the beach under the Brooklyn Bridge for a 1 AM start.

We rucked all over NYC that night, pushing through workouts—including one to honor a buddy who gave his life in Afghanistan. We chased the sunrise, and we found it. When we finally set our rucks down, we drank victory beers overlooking One World Trade Center, where there used to be Two. We felt alive to the core of our being.

When the body’s call for Green Beret Nap Time (GBNT) could no longer be ignored, we answered. But when I woke up, I threw on a suit with that same pair of Mackall 45s, hit the streets, and added our fuel to the city that never sleeps.

This whole crazy GORUCK adventure came full circle when I rucked past the Lower East Side apartment where we first designed GR1 to thrive in Baghdad and NYC. I smiled ear to ear thinking about how much has changed since 2008, and how the most important things remain exactly the same.

We pour blood, sweat, tears, and love into everything we build. It shows in every step, and in every stitch. You’re going to love them like we love them.

My Go-To

"I couldn’t be happier with the Mackall 45. The build quality is exceptional right out of the box, durable, well-crafted, and clearly built to handle the serious wear and tear of regular Rucking. The fit is completely true to size with no awkward breaking-in required. What impressed me most is the overall comfort level. They feel incredibly supportive and cushioned even after hours on my feet under a heavy Ruck sack. On top of the performance, they have a clean, sleek design that's nice enough to wear for a night out. I'm very pleased with this pair that I'm already looking forward to picking up another in a different colorway."

This is my 3rd pair

"This is my 3rd pair of Mackalls. I wear them almost daily in every season. They are my favorite shoe. I decided to check out the 45’s as they are a bit less “sporty” looking. They are very sharp and as well made as the OG. However, the 45 addition is slightly different around the ankle and heel cup. It’s not a big difference but I’ve found that it creates rubbing on the Achilles where the other variation did not. Because of that rubbing, it also pulls the sock down and ends up bunching under the foot. These are good shoes but I wish they hadn’t messed with perfection."

— Nathaniel F. (4/5)

"I bought these as a dedicated pair of rucking shoes for my workouts. They claimed to need zero break-in of the box which I unfortunately found out after my first hike in them was not the case. I got severe blisters on my heel which made me cut my walk short. I wore merino wool socks with no load so I could only attribute it to the shoe being too stiff and absolutely need to be broken in before taking them out. They look great and feel solid but they’re just not comfortable and overall a disappointment for the cost."

Gorgeous shoes

"GoRuck photography is usually spot on. But I’ve been fooled. These shoes are GORGEOUS in real life. Absolutely love them. The suede literally looks like high end luxury suede. I hope they keep them around."

I really wanted to like these, but. . .

"I really wanted to like these. Size 14. Too narrow from mid-foot to the toes. Really pressed down on the top of my feet, angering my bunions like no tomorrow. Meanwhile, my heel slipped out as I rucked. The base felt really good. If their design matches your feet, you should be good to go."

— Dan Z. (2/5)

No hot spots as advertised.

"I did take it from the box, to my feet, and then 15 hour’s later removed them. It was by no means 15 hours of rucking. Just early morning ruck with dog, off to work, noon dog walk, back to work, then night ruck with dog. No hot spots and I am still cranking them as my everyday."

I wanted to love these but I had to return them

"For starters I do love the construction of these shoes. The leather and appearance are top notch. However I fall outside of their use. I have a highly dynamic foot Arch and wide toe splay. As such the usual sizing tools have me at 11.5 - 12 wide give or take. Despite only ever using 12s or larger depending on how my toes fit. Unfortunately these I ordered in 12.5 as I have other similar brands that I needed to go up half a size. But these were about 0.3 too long and the edge of my toe was against the wall. After confirming with GoRuck they did indicate that their shoes are a standard D widths. Which led to the start of the fitting issue for me. With the pinky against the wall, slightly too long causing the laces to overnighten and over pressure my aches. As such, 15 minutes of test walking caused me to loose sensation in my toes. Given that what has fit have been 12s in above standard Ds or DD wide with natural wide toe boxes. If you have an issue or need for the wider toe splay take the consideration of your normal size and contast it's length as I would figure this will affect your choice."

Great shoes!!

"These are my second pair of shoes, but after nine (9) years they were starting to look old. I love the newest version using pigskin."

Simply Awesome

"Mackall 45 Black + Gum is, without a doubt, one of the toughest and most dependable shoes I’ve ever worn. The materials feel genuinely premium, the gum sole grips everything from pavement to loose dirt, and the construction lives up to what GORUCK promises. I’ve put them through sweat, long miles, and rough trails, and they just keep going. The painful part, though, has nothing to do with the shoes. It’s that the person who was meant to walk beside me is no longer here. We had imagined covering hundreds of miles together this year sharing the tired legs, the quiet stretches, and those simple conversations that somehow feel different when you’re walking side by side. Life, unfortunately, took a sudden and cruel turn. The truth is, these shoes are holding up beautifully through every mile and every dirt covered path. But whenever I lace them up and see those black and gum soles hitting the ground, I can’t help thinking about all the trails we never got the chance to walk together. An honest 10/10 + for the Mackall 45. They carry me forward with every step even when my heart still feels left behind. Thank you, GORUCK and Monster you will always live in our hearts and walk beside us in spirit."
