Jungle Rucking Boot

You live in your boots in Special Forces. You’re geared up with everything you need for days on end, moving all the miles. The terrain you face is arduous, and varied - jungle river crossings, steep ascents, and rocky fields lead to cities where you move house to house, door to door, rooftop to rooftop. One second you’re silent on overwatch - the next you’re sprinting toward the objective. It’s life or death and you have to adapt to the ground truths, all the time.

No Break-In Time
They’re ready when you are, right out of the box. Pictured in Sapa Valley, northern Vietnam. Brand new pair 20 miles earlier, no hotspots, no blisters.
Premium Suede Heel Counter
Wraps a supportive, injection molded TPU (Thermo-Plastic Urethane) heel counter. This combination stabilizes your heel as the suede leather prevents the kind of friction that causes hotspots and then blisters.
Wide Toe Box
Generous forefoot area lets your toes breathe. Over time and distance during any activity including rucking or traveling, your feet will swell. This extra space reduces the friction that can occur if your feet rub against the insides of your boot.
Full-Grain Leather Upper
Premium full-grain leather & 1000D Cordura uppers with 2” nylon webbing for added ankle support - debris and rain stay out, your feet can still breathe.
3mm Speed Laces
Speed laces with 3mm laces as opposed to standard 5mm. Debris and mud doesn’t collect on the 3mm laces like it does on the 5mm, the 3mm rinse off and dry faster, and they’re faster to tie because there’s less bulk.
Shielding Drain Holes
Keeps sand and debris out and repel moisture with every step. They expel water with old fashioned technology that just works - with every step, you push the water out the side of the boot.
Ankle Webbing
MACV-1™’s are suitable for airborne operations and maintain stability and support on uneven ground. Here’s how this works. The 2” webbing is sewn into the heel counter. When you lace your boots up with your ankle locked into the heel, the heel counter and the 2” webbing do not pull forward - this is by design. But as you tighten them down, this process locks your heel down and shifts the freedom of flex to the forefoot. Which is where it should be.
No Spacer Mesh
Spacer mesh is soft, squishy, and feels comfortable to your hand when you touch it. But it’s a trap, literally. The first time spacer mesh looks at any kind of water, your boots get heavier and they stay that way. So we proudly do not use spacer mesh, end of story.
Lightweight EVA Midsole
The relationship between the EVA midsole and the rubber outer sole matters greatly to the performance of the boot - and the combined weight is a major factor in whether you want to wear them or not.
High Traction Rubber Outsole
The thin rubber outer sole adds traction and durability with understated protection at the toes of the boot for when you’re rucking in rocky terrain or doing push-ups.
Rubber Lace Caps
Rubber cap on shoe laces for advanced toughness - doesn’t crack like those cheap clear plastic ones.
Rucking Offset
The ideal heel-to-toe drop for rucking. 13mm offset reduces the strain on your achilles (and by proxy your ankle, knees, and hips) and helps to accomodate a natural gait in an unnatural world of asphalt and man-made surfaces.
Workhorse Insert™
The MACV-1™’s Workhorse Insert™ is not your normal worthless flat cheap single foam insole. The Workhorse Insert™ uses a dual layered compression foam system that supports your entire foot from heel to toe - including contoured arch support - throughout the duration of your foot strike.
Adhesive System
The non-diluted adhesive system that bonds the outsoles to the midsoles and the midsoles to the uppers is strength tested at upwards of 12.5 kg of precision applied force, which is considered a “diamond” shoe within the industry. For reference, the industry standard is 2.8 - 3.5kg. Our adhesive system ensures that the boots thrive no matter the abuse thrown at them.

Proudly NOT Waterproof

Your feet need to breathe, especially while moving. Waterproof boots act as a microwave for your feet after they’re shrink wrapped in plastic - so your feet sweat more and the waterproof boots trap it in. If rainwater, river water, or water from an alley puddle get in from the top, there’s nowhere for it to go. This will not work out well for you - you’ll get pruned skin and eventually blisters that will form and then rip off, exposing raw, red skin - it’s everything bad you don’t want. In Rich’s words, “waterproof boots are good if you wanna kick your feet up around a campfire that you drove to, or if you’re a prison guard in Siberia. Otherwise, stick to boots and shoes that can adapt to whatever environment you find yourself in.”

Tip of the Spear

To create the boot at the tip of the spear in Special Forces, today — that was always the goal. And guys in Special Forces don’t give a damn whether a pair of boots is Army compliant or not. They want the best boots they can find, period.

So MACV-1™’s are proudly Special Forces compliant. That means you can travel, train, and ruck in them in any environment in the world. And if assaulting is one of your duties, well, you can do that in ‘em, too.

Scars Lifetime Guarantee

MACV-1’s are built to the same Special Forces life or death quality standards as all GORUCK gear and apparel. If there’s a defect in workmanship or materials, or if you actually manage to wear them out, we’ll replace your pair via our Scars Lifetime Guarantee.

We want to hear the story about how you wore your MACV-1’s for 10,000 miles on every continent, in every terrain. We’re years into our journeys, and ours still look brand new, only better.

HOW DO I CLEAN MACV-1’S?

To clean them, use a hose and a bucket of soap. Clean the Workhorse Insert separately and remove it from the boots. Then hang your MACV-1’s upside down to dry. Do not use a washing machine or a dryer on your boots, damage that might result is not covered.

CAN I POLISH THEM?

To maintain the highest performance standards for your MACV-1’s, polish them up from time to time like a professional.

ARE THE SOLES COVERED UNDER SCARS?

Because MACV-1’s are lightweight performance boots (as opposed to heavy work boots with nailed in soles), we cannot (as in, physically it’s not possible for us) replace just the soles on your pair of MACV-1’s. Over time and thousands of miles, the shielding rubber outer sole will wear down from the miles you’ve done in them (like any set of tires you drive for 40,000 miles). This is to be expected and not a defect. A hole or stitching that comes undone due to wear and tear (like a flat tire): those would be problems that definitely fall under our Scars Lifetime Guarantee.

If you can wear the soles on your MACV-1’s down to where there’s no more tread at all, you’re practically an ambassador for us and we’ll happily trade you a new pair, free of charge, for a story and a picture from your favorite spot where you wore them.

WHAT ABOUT FIRE DAMAGE?

It’s a common practice to dry boots around a campfire after a long day of rucking. Then maybe you fall asleep and forget about your boots. We’ve been there, we’ve done that, then your boots are melted when you find them in the morning and the soles look like Frankenstein. As a matter of policy, we do not cover fire damage on MACV-1’s. But it’s always a conversation, send us a note and tell us the story and we’ll see what we can do to get you back in action at a discount.

Lucky for you, MACV-1’s dry out really, really fast. Even when not next to a campfire. Put newspaper or loosely shove a small towel in them to accelerate the drying process when the sun is not out.

What Size Am I?

MACV-1™ runs true to size with a wide toe box, which allows your toes to spread out over time and distance. We've found the fit to be similar to Chuck T's if you keep in mind the MACV-1's wider forefoot area. If you're unsure of your size we recommend going a half size up since your feet will swell when rucking or traveling and you probably won't be wearing cheap thin socks (merino wool recommended).

UNISEX SIZING

The MACV-1™'s wide toe box, locking heel counter, and contoured arch support via the Workhorse™ Insert make for a truly unisex boot. Sizing begins at M4/W6 to allow for a full range of women's size options. See the size conversion chart below to find your size.
