Rucksack Compatibility

Our standard of compatibility is that Ruck Plates® will be stable and secure in your Ruck with minimal shifting.

If you have a Ruck Plate Carrier™, we recommend the shorter (Standard) Ruck Plates® — 10LB, 20LB or 30LB.

The 20L and 25L Rucker® feature an additional pocket to securely fit a 45LB Ruck Plate®, which can be paired with a 20LB or 30LB Ruck Plate® for up to 75 lbs of total weight.

If you have a GR1®, we recommend the Standard Ruck Plate® — 30LB.

45LB Ruck Plates® only strap in securely to the 20L/25L Rucker and Long Ruck Plate Carrier, however they will fit into the interior elastic pocket of the GR1® (suitable for upright weighted rucking, but not ruck PT aka burpees and bear crawls).

Five people with backpacks run on a sunny sidewalk lined with palm trees and houses in the background.

WHEN IN DOUBT

Start With 20#

The relationship between your body, the weight, and the rucksack will determine your level of comfort on the move. Our recommendation for most people is to start with 20 lbs of weight for rucking, progress in increments of ~10 lbs, and ultimately max out at ⅓ of your bodyweight. It’s more important to keep proper form while rucking than to have more weight.

Truck pack and plates

"The main complaint I have with my go rock pack as that the straps are very difficult to adjust. When I pull up on the little plastic tab, the strap doesn’t even budge to loosen. I have to manually take it off and feed it through. My other wish list would be if you had 5 pound plates so I could go from 10 to 15 by adding a single plate. This way I had to buy a separate 15 pound plate instead of just getting a five and adding it to the 10."

Simple return

"I bought the standard RPC and 20lb plate. It was too small for my body. The return process was super easy and the customer service staff was very responsive and helpful. Now just waiting on my account credit to order the Long RPC instead."

Ryan H. (5/5)

More Weight

"Bought this weight plate for my brother after he bought the basic ruck on sale. He loves it. We’re both getting older and we’re looking for another fitness activity to stay fit. I love getting outdoors a walking wooded trails. My brother too! Btw-dealing with your customer service people was a treat. Really treated me well. Thanks"

Just better!!

"I thoroughly enjoy all the gear I purchased. Initially broke it in with a 4 miler. Much more comfortable than the diy I was using before. To have the weight situated and stable, and the ruck strapped tight to my back. Thank you!"

Thomas B. (5/5)

The straps are incredibly uncomfortable.

"The straps are incredibly uncomfortable. I bought the 45 pound plate but had to drop down to the 30 pound plate. I’m comfortable with the weight, but the straps are awful. Had to buy additional aftermarket pads to go on the straps, which makes it barely tolerable."

Brett R. (3/5)

Solid weight for training

"Solid weight for training. The plates are high quality and very durable. They fit the ruck perfectly. A bit pricey but good quality."

James F. (5/5)

Great tool

"Overall very comfortable backpack. I have had it for about 10 days now and used it about 5x for 3 mile rucks/dog walks. Quality is good. Kinda stinks I bought it a few days before the big sale! Backpack was a bit smaller than what I pictured. But overall good stuff."

Great piece of gear! Fits

"Great piece of gear! Fits perfect in Ruck! Well made. You need to maybe redesign packaging. The Box came with my boots and looks like it was related a billion times and was falling apart when I got it."

Joshua K. (5/5)

But wait, there's more!!

"The handles are extremely convenient not only for carrying them by hand and putting them into and taking them out of the ruck, but also for weighted abdominal exercise where you'd otherwise be using a round weight such as twisting exercise!!"

Jessi S. (5/5)

Last year I spent time

"Last year I spent time with the McCarthys. Jason mentioned he keeps a ruck by the door and grabs it whenever he goes out—even for conference calls. I’ve never liked setting aside time to work out—I get it; I lack the discipline—but that idea stuck. Months later, his words finally landed (he had no idea). I ordered a Goruck and a twenty-pound plate. When it arrived, I checked it out and set it by the door. There it sat… mocking me. Out of excuses, I put it on one day to water the plants, and that was it. With few exceptions, if I go outside now, I’m wearing it. The results have been physically and psychologically remarkable. I carry it no fewer than thirty hours a week—and I still don’t “work out. ”"
