Best Defense Foundation and the NFL, along with GORUCK, are bringing D-Day heroes back to the beaches of Normandy for the 75th Anniversary. You can help make that a reality.

This opportunity allows some of our most celebrated heroes, America's 'Greatest Generation’, to finally, after all these many years, connect with their brothers-in-arms and gain a small amount of closure - for each and every one of them lost brothers in WWII.

Join us in support of Best Defense Foundation by pledging miles and participating in a virtual rucking fundraiser. Fundraiser ends July 8, so don't miss out on your chance to participate. Commemorate the D-Day Landings by rucking and re-enacting OSS movements in honor of America’s Greatest Generation who liberated France and Europe. Learn more about the rucks and workouts here.

Pick your distance and do the work. Win win.

What is Rucking?

RUCK•ING [VERB] // Walking with a weighted rucksack (aka backpack). It implies action, energy, and purpose. Rucking requires strength, endurance, and character -- and builds it, too.

Moving with weight on your back is the foundation of Special Forces training - and GORUCK Events. Rucking combines strength and cardio, is adaptable to anyone’s goals based on the amount of weight carried, and is a popular, empowering activity for those who hate to run or find it boring.

How it Works

Pledge Miles by Ordering Your Patch

Pick from the 3 options and order your patch. Your donation amount is based on the number of miles and workouts you want to do. Patches available through July 8.

Complete the Workouts

Starting June 1, you're on the honor system to complete the workouts. Each workout correlates with OSS movements from the D-Day Landings.

Get Your Patch

Once the challenge has ended you will be rewarded for all your hard work. Patches will ship out during the month of July. We will be in touch once they ship out.

Check out the map and details of the actual ruck marches that took place to complete the mission on D-day. When completing your miles, pick one of their routes, read about it and dedicate your ruck to America’s Greatest Generation who liberated France and Europe

Pre-order Your Tee

Celebrate your completion of the challenge by purchasing a tee.

"Taking care of the ones who took care of us!"

— Donnie Edwards, Best Defense Foundation Founder

Best Defense Foundation

Best Defense Foundation is a nonprofit organization focused on helping our military veterans and their families. Best Defense was founded by Donnie Edwards, a retired NFL football player who has spent the last 22 years giving back to our military. He has done numerous USO tours, visited many military bases and accompanied hundreds of WWII veterans and Vietnam veterans back to their battlefields. His dedication and support for our military is unwavering.

Started in 2008 by an Army Green Beret, GORUCK is an American brand with Special Forces roots pioneering rucking as a fitness activity. From start to finish, GORUCK designs, tests, and proudly overbuilds military-grade travel gear, training equipment, performance apparel and footwear. GORUCK also conducts team-building events that simulate the training and conditions of Special Forces, led by combat-decorated veterans of Special Forces.

We are excited to be teaming up with the Best Defense Foundation and honoring these WWII veterans at our special GORUCK events in Normandy on June 4. Do this challenge with us to honor them and be there in spirit.

A virtual ruck is a rucking event that you do on your own time, at your own pace, anywhere you want. We recommend you find some friends or a local Ruck Club to share your miles with.

You only need 3 things to start rucking: a ruck aka backpack, some water, and your weight. When in doubt, start with 20 lbs. It’s better with friends and dogs and you can do it anywhere with anyone no matter their ability, or yours.

Participating in the #RuckingChallenge and the patch you earn upon completion is FREE.

You're on the honor system so that part's up to you.

The mission of GORUCK Ruck Clubs is to inspire, promote, and support rucking and strengthen communities through rucking. A club in your area may be anything from a gym to a local crew, but all with the same goal - smiles and miles. Find your local Ruck Club here.

GORUCK Cadre are rucking experts. They are all decorated combat Veterans of Special Operations who have served America, and Americans, honorably across the globe. Rucking is the foundation of Special Forces training and Green Berets are well versed in shouldering heavy rucks through cities, mountains, jungles and deserts, in war and in peace -- alone when they must, together whenever possible.

No problem. Send us a note at and we'll get you taken care of.
