GORUCK War Stories and Free Beer
Veterans share their stories.
All are invited, questions are encouraged.
Dress is casual, beer is free.
Over a decade since 9/11, still too little is known about what it means to serve in a time of war. War Stories and Free Beer encourages veterans to share their stories with those interested in learning more.
Tickets are a $10 donation. All ticket donations and donations given at War Stories and Free Beer are split 50/50 between theGreen Beret Foundation (GBF) and the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA).
GORUCK founder and former Green Beret Jason McCarthy started War Stories and Free Beer in 2009 at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. His goal was for his classmates with wartime experience to present their stories – thus building a bridge between the military and a diverse audience of students. Beer takes pressure off the speaker, the listener, and the atmosphere, and makes everything better. It will always be present at War Stories and Free Beer.
If you are a war veteran and would like to speak, please submit at least 3 photos (the higher res, the better) and your story (bullet points are fine) to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note we retain rights to use the pictures you submit to market the event. The best speakers have good pictures from their deployment(s) and are no strangers to telling a good story. If you’ve never spoken publicly about your service, that’s no problem. We can coach you and promise an atmosphere anchored by a universal love of beer.
We are currently looking for spaces that hold about 150 people in Austin, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, Tampa, Dallas, and every other GORUCK Challenge city. Please send us a note to email@example.com if you would like to help.
